Innovation… it’s the beating heart of any tech-focused company, and it’s something we value very highly here at The Floow. It’s one of our four company values and that means we focus on cultivating and fostering innovation every single day.

But this week, we’re turning up the volume. The last working week before Christmas is a great time for us to look forward to the future and that is why this year, we are holding our very first Innovation Week. The aim is to elevate our focus on innovation even further and work together in a concerted way across the company to accelerate new ideas that could contribute to our future growth and customer success.

Innovation Week will see different teams step away from their day to day work to focus completely on developing a set of new innovation projects before presenting their progress to the rest of the company at the end of the week. As preparation for this, we took submissions for ideas from right across the company. Most of the ideas submitted looked at how we could improve an existing product or process, but some of them suggested totally new blue sky initiatives. Despite this being the first time we had done this, over 120 ideas were submitted, showcasing the creativity and ambition The Floow team have to make a difference. We then cut this list down to 32 ideas, making sure that each project we selected would appeal to people with a large range of different skills. And finally, we gave everyone the opportunity to pick 3 projects they were the most interested in.

Ten projects were then selected to be worked on covering everything from teaching our non-techy people how to build an app, to exploring the possibility of adding web automation testing to our quality assessment process.

For four days this week, we have a great opportunity to explore new technologies and work across boundaries bringing different teams, skills and expertise together in the process. For me, Innovation Week will help to free us all up to focus on fresh thinking by drawing inspiration and expertise from right across our talented team.

Over the last 12 months, we have doubled the number of our staff and have hit the exciting milestone of 100 employees split between our HQ in Sheffield and our recently opened North American office in Detroit. In view of such rapid growth, we must ensure that innovating for the future is at the forefront of our culture. Innovation Week is also a great opportunity to encourage people to explore ideas outside of their day to day roles and to collaborate with different people. I think this is something which is particularly important at this stage of our development and when we’ve had such an influx of new talent join us over the last 12 months.

I’m looking forward to what Innovation Week will deliver and am certain that some of the ideas and projects we’ll be working on will be integrated into future products and services, helping us to deliver on our mission of making mobility safer and smarter for everyone.

If like us you’re excited about innovation, then you could make a great addition to our team here at The Floow. You can view all of our open opportunities on our careers page.
