Introducing… FloowFleet

Aldo Monteforte - October 02nd, 2018

I’m delighted to announce the launch of FloowFleet, our white label fleet telematics solution, designed to meet the needs of insurers serving small fleets of commercial vehicles.

The FloowFleet platform powers commercial lines insurers offering policies for fleets of up to 25 light-duty vehicles, allowing them to track their vehicles via OBD or self-installed fitted devices.

Join us at the Insurance Innovators event in London on 5th and 6th November and in a client webinar, which is taking place on October 16th at 10am EDT, where we will be demoing FloowFleet. If you can’t make our webinar, you can register anyway and we will send you a link to the recording after the event which you can watch at your convenience.

The business case for commercial lines telematics

Fleet management products have been widely accepted and available for large fleets and heavy trucking for many years. But up until now, fleet products for small, light-duty vehicles have been unavailable or out of reach in terms of cost. With FloowFleet, insurers now have an opportunity to offer a turn-key, white-labeled platform to these important customers. And it gives fleet managers an easy-to-use, intuitive risk and asset management toolkit to monitor their vehicles.

We developed FloowFleet to help commercial lines insurers and businesses managing fleets to access the benefits that telematics technology can deliver. And there’s never been a better time to focus on these benefits. According to the US Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), on-the-job motor vehicle accidents cost employers an average of $74,000 [1], while the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the leading cause of work-related deaths is motor vehicle accidents.

This has led to significant losses for insurers. In the US, the industry has reported seven consecutive years of underwriting losses; in 2017 these losses reached a 16 year high at 111.1%. At the same time, loss ratios remain elevated and despite an improvement to 77.9% in 2017 from 80.5% in 2013, the industry needs to see less than 70% to reach break-even.

At the same time, the motor fleet insurance market in Europe has been similarly challenged. A report by the consultancy group, Roland Berger [2], found that the sector has historically been unprofitable and its poor performance has seen an increasing number of providers exiting the market.

Telematics has the power to address and reduce these significant commercial and personal costs by collecting information about how we drive and enabling insights to be generated about driver behaviour. These can help fleet managers to better manage risk and enable their fleet drivers to become safer and smarter when they are behind the wheel.

Behavioural analytics can be extremely beneficial to commercial lines insurers and fleet managers. Telematics can help tackle common issues faced by fleet managers including dangerous driving behaviours and driving outside of specified geofences, which can raise the risk of road accidents and increase vehicle maintenance costs. Telematics data also presents an accurate means of predicting risk, enabling insurers to better manage it across their commercial lines book.

Introducing FloowFleet

With FloowFleet, we’re providing insurers with an affordable platform to develop a commercial lines telematics proposition, and increasing the speed to market due to the reduced development and deployment time it takes to launch that proposition on our platform. Up until now, new propositions have taken an average of six months to bring to market; with FloowFleet we believe it’s possible to complete the same process within just six weeks.

And because FloowFleet puts powerful data in the Fleet Manager’s hands to take action on unsafe driving behaviour, these small fleets start to represent a better risk for the insurer and they are more likely to access fairer priced insurance. By focusing on driver safety and positive behaviours, Fleet Managers can also benefit from a reduction in costly wear and tear of their vehicles. All of this represents a win-win, by delivering a strong ROI for the insurer and reducing the cost of claims on their book.

FloowFleet incorporates our world-class scoring engine which is proven to be highly predictive of claims. Insights from our data capture and scoring are viewable in the fleet management portal and fleet managers can share this information with their drivers in order to encourage safer driving and improvements to driver behaviour.

We’ve taken more than six years of experience in building engaging telematics solutions and rolled it into the FloowFleet platform. FloowFleet is supported by a strong product roadmap, with multiple feature releases planned over the coming months to include curfews, crash/First Notice Of Loss alerts, an optional driver rewards programme, and a driver-facing app to give them timely visibility of their scores.
