We recently attended this year’s Dig-In conference and exhibition, held on the 29-31 May in Austin, Texas. The industry-leading event showcases the best aspects of the digital future of insurance and The Floow was proud to be part of it.

Attracting over 2,000 attendees from across the industry, the event didn’t disappoint with highlights including introducing us to goat yoga (you should try it!), keynote by Apple Founder, Steve Wozniak, and of course a ‘fireside chat’ between Danny Maco, Head of Telematics, Mobile and Connected Products, CSAA and our very own Aldo Monteforte, CEO and founder of The Floow.

Their conversation focused on how we work with our client, CSAA, and how the relationship has developed over time to one of mutual trust, respect and true partnership to allow for commercial success for both parties. It’s a relationship we’re very proud of and certainly one we aim to emulate with all our clients.

We had productive meetings with 17 different insurance companies at the show, with particular interest being shown in our ability to score and build IP around existing telematics data. This work can augment current programs, both for commercial and personal lines, or serve as a solid business case for future product and service innovation. Scoring as a service was a popular topic in nearly all our conversations.

Our unique approach, collaborating with our clients to develop their own driver scoring IP, enables them to differentiate and innovate within their markets and build deep internal expertise in telematics. This partnership model is one we are particularly proud of and to which we apply significant resources as a business, as discussed by Aldo and Danny.

A personal highlight for me was Steve Wozniak’s comments regarding AI, which I found particularly interesting and thought-provoking. He talked about how AI has the potential to stifle creativity and innovation due to a trend whereby a user is only shown the things they already like and know about, therefore limiting exposure to new information and experiences. It can also tend to exacerbate confirmation bias. And when you think about it, he’s absolutely right. Advances in technology can open us up to a whole new world of possibilities, but in the same vein, we must not become so reliant upon it that it switches us off from the imagination and innovation that has got us this far.

As a technology company this is an interesting thought and one we shall consider as we continue to develop pioneering telematics products and services that meet our clients’ increasingly challenging and sophisticated needs - and those of their policyholders.
