IT Operations Engineer

Sheffield, UK

We are looking for an IT Operations Engineer to maintain, upgrade and manage our software, hardware and networks. Based in Sheffield, the role will require a successful candidate to support internal IT estate (servers, laptops, network eq., etc) along with services it runs like Atlassian, gSuite, AV, etc.

Your Accountabilities:

  • Use good domain knowledge of Systems Administration to accomplish the activities, identify and solve any problems of the IT Operations function
  • Display proficiency with the associated toolkits and company specific systems, tools and technologies to deliver support and contribute to the success of the team 
  • Operate successfully at an individual level, with an openness to seek strategic and technical guidance from more senior members of the organisation as well as proactively seeking out external influences; considering how we can adapt these for our business and technology stack 
  • Operate at a largely autonomous level when analysing and breaking down tasks and information, receiving support from more senior members of the organisation occasionally 

 

You will have:

  • Commercial experience within a IT hardware and Operating systems
  • Working experience with hardware including servers, network equipment & laptops
  • Familiarity with Linux, OSX and Windows
  • Experience with hardware and networks (LAN)
  • Knowledge of system security principles
  • Working knowledge of Firewalls eg. Fortinet, Cisco 
  • Source Version Control (eg. Git, Mercurial, SVN)
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
  • Effective communications skills
  • Experience with VPN (IPsec, OpenVPN)

 

Desirable skills:

  • MDM – Apple devices
  • Scripting skills – Python, Bash
  • Saltstack
  • Atlassian (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence)
  • Wi-Fi Meraki
  • Managed L2/L3 switch management
